What's a memory of us you hope we never forget?

“I'll never forget Rohan reading his vows. He started so confidently and then the moment he said “Sam, I knew at 11pm in a Glasgow flat” he completely fell apart. The whole room laughed and cried in the same breath. It was the most honest five minutes I've ever witnessed.”

What advice would you give us for married life?

“My darling girl. Be each other's safest place. Everything else, the rows about the dishwasher, the bad weeks, the years when one of you carries more, none of it matters if you stay each other's safest place. With all my love, always.”

What's your favourite moment from today?

“Watching Sam's dad have his quiet little moment with her before the ceremony. He didn't know anyone was looking. He just held her face and didn't say anything for a long time. I felt very lucky to have seen that.”

What's something you've noticed about us as a couple?

“You make each other braver. Rohan was a careful boy before he met you, Sam. Cautious about everything. Since you came along he's become someone who tries. Who says yes. Who books the flights and signs the leases and takes the leap. Thank you for that.”

What would you like us to read on our first anniversary?

“One year in. By now you've had the first proper argument, the first time you let each other down, the first night where one of you slept on the sofa. That stuff is the marriage. Today was the party. The marriage is what comes next. You're going to be wonderful at it.”

“Rohan, the first time Sam mentioned you to me, she had been seeing you for three weeks. She came home from a date, sat on the kitchen counter eating cold pasta out of a bowl, and said “I think I'm in trouble with this one.” I still remember exactly how she said it. She was right.”

What's something you've always wanted to tell us?

“Thanks for being the people we go to. Maya and I have leaned on you both more than we've ever said out loud. The dinners, the messages, the showing up. You don't make it feel like a favour. That means the world to us. Today was a way of saying it. Thank you.”

What should we remember when life feels busy?

“Sunday mornings. The unhurried ones. The slow coffees and the unread papers and the no-plans. Protect them. The years go quickly and the busy years go quickest. The Sundays are what you'll remember.”
